Start Date End Date Note Date Entered 2024-10-07 00:00:00 2024-10-07 23:59:59 ** Funding and maintenance of station switched from FEMC to SUNY Plattsburg - new station will be installed in spring 2025. All current sensors are working, but have not been recalibrated since they will be replaced by new equipment. Calibration was due for temp/RH sensors and windvanes in August 2023 and in October 2023 for the Pyranometer. Accuracy of data cannot be guaranteed past that date. ** 2024-10-07 13:23:09 2022-06-30 00:00:00 2022-06-30 23:59:59 AB and LM (SUNY) visited. Weather is sunny and clear. Data logger was turned off at 11:16am, swapped out from a CR10X to a CR1000 datalogger, rewired and turned back on at 11:51am. We then turned the datalogger off again at 12:18pm to switch some wiring after checking the loggernet program. The datalogger was turned back on at 12:30pm. We got to the island again by using SUNY's boat. 2022-09-19 08:51:28 2022-05-12 00:00:00 2022-05-12 23:59:59 AB with LM and AA (SUNY) visited site for maintenance. Replaced and updated temp/RH sensor from HMC45 to EE181. Replaced BP sensor with recalibrated sensor. The weather was sunny and warm. Turned the datalogger off at 11:18, performed maintenance and replacements, and turned back on at 11:57. We got to the island on SUNY's boat so we were able to pull up to the end of the island with the tower. We were unable to update the program to reflect the new temperature sensor on site. AB updated the sensor at home and checked the data after a few collections. It became clear that the datalogger (CR10X) was not compatible with the new temp sensor and another visit would be necessary to update the datalogger. 2022-09-19 08:35:31 2021-12-02 00:00:00 2021-12-02 23:59:59 On 12/2/2021 at 3:02 PM EST the station stopped collecting data. We are looking into why we cannot reach the tower. It is suspected that there is something wrong with the Modem out there. 2021-12-21 08:29:10 2021-07-23 00:00:00 2021-07-23 23:59:59 Relative humidity data between 5/11/2021 - 07/22/2021 is problematic. There are really high values. JT believes that this is due to damage to the temp/rh when it was used at another site that had a faulty cable which caused minor corrossion. An inspection on 07/22/2021 revealed that there was minor corrossion that developed inside of the temp/rh. The sensor was replaced on 07/22/2021. 2021-07-23 07:51:27 2021-07-22 00:00:00 2021-07-22 23:59:59 JT and AB went out to Burton Island using the ferry. We had a wagon with us which made the trip a lot easier. Taking the south tip trail takes you right to the weather station and the wagon traveled pretty easily. The little giant fit on the wagon (with some straps). We replaced the faulty temp/rh, swapped out the pyranometer, and cleaned out the precip gage. With the TEMP/RH we noticed that there was some slight corrossion inside of the housing. With the Pyranometer JT updated the program on the line that begins with a P2 instruction. The multiplier used was 99.4549 instead of 98.3 (original multiplier, which seems questionable). The rain gauge funnel looked off when we removed it to be cleaned. It seems like over the years it is beginning to morph. We should consider looking into a new funnely for the gage. Time off was 10:06 EDT and time on was 1126 AM EDT. 2021-07-22 16:04:39 2021-05-11 00:00:00 2021-05-11 23:59:59 JT, EG, and KC went out to Burton Island. We launched from Kill Kare Statepark which was not open officially yet but it was open to the public with no staff. We were able to beach on the NW corner of the island near the met station. We used the little giant to maintain the site, would highly reommend bringing straps to lock the ladder in as it can be a bit wobbly without the additional support. We replaced the wind vane, anemometer, bp, and temp RH. The wind vane was a new model and required modifications to the program which are noted within the maintenance notes. We also used a CS105 which required a change to the offset, which accounts for elevation. All changes are noted in the visit notes. The new program was also stored in the Datalogger_programs in the idrive. The program has no labels as it was a modification of the orginal program (2019) which also had no labels. This was the best way to update the program without causing too many issues becasue of the new wind vane. Additionally JT modified the cotter pin because it was extremely difficult for someone without the leverage to remove it (JT struggled). JT cut it in half to reduce thickness which made it more plyable and easier to insert into the holes. 2021-05-18 18:35:09 2019-06-03 00:00:00 2019-06-03 23:59:59 Burton Island Met Station Annual Maintenance Ali and Mike June 3, 2019 Jacob took us across island in two gators to boardwalk, with wheelbarrow, huge help. Pushed wheelbarrow rest of way. Wasps in battery box. Sprayed with wasp spray. Took photo of control box (Ali has it) Sent program before turning off power. Had message that there was no program to download, but it did download something. Couldn’t see an obvious reason for this, but must be some issue with the gasket? Power off at 0815 and back on at 1030. We found a wee wasp nest in the battery box with active wasps, so bring death spray next time. The cotter pin on the 3-cup was a wicked struggle to get back in. It was more successful feeding it in from the south to the north than the other direction. Vice grips or pliers are useful to straighten it a bit. 2018-05-30 08:59:59 2017-11-09 13:45:00 2017-11-09 15:00:00 Power off at 1:45 pm. Temp probe F2450241. Pyranometer (PY102368), and Barometric P Sensor (L5210461) installed. Precipitation gauge was inspected and cleared of any blockages. Replaced Desi packs. Two readings after turning the Barometric P Sensor on were turned nullified due to the program not being correct. The issue was resolved during a later visit a couple weeks after. This second visit was to confirm that it was not a hardware issue. 2017-12-04 13:25:45 2016-05-19 12:00:00 2016-05-19 12:00:00 Installed new antennae, new storage module and new SC105CS interface.Replaced air temperature, relative humidity and barometric pressure sensors.
