Project Overview
This is a low impact research project that involves a) vegetation surveys to characterize forest overstory structure (tree id, height and diameter) and understory composition (tree seedlings and herbaceous cover); b) measurements of long term stand microclimate using iButton data loggers and c) extracting tree cores to study how climate affects tree growth and mortality.
Objectives
Determine how climate and soil affect tree recruitment, growth, mortality and abundance in the spruce-fir zone of protected ares in the northern forest, including sites in NY, NH, ME and VT.
