Methods
The methods followed in the creation of the dataset, including description of field, laboratory and processing steps, and quality control procedures
Current Methods
As of 2010, changes to methods. Only the forest tent pheromone trapping is continuing, and we have reduced the number of traps from five to three.
Spruce budworm monitoring discontinued in 2004.
Pest monitoring
Started: 1991-06-01These pests are monitored using pheromone traps (multipher traps with a biolure and a vaportape insecticide), which attract male moths during their flight period, indicating relative population levels in the area. Each trap type is deployed during the adult moth flight period. Forest tent and spruce budworm pheromone traps deployed at 1400 foot elevation.
Five forest tent caterpillar pheromone traps per elevation are deployed between June 20 and August 15.
Three spruce budworm traps per elevation are deployed between June 14 and September 5.
One spring hemlock looper pheromone trap per elevation is deployed between April 7 and July 15.
One fall hemlock looper pheromone trap per elevation is deployed from August 31 to October 31.
Forest tent, spruce budworm and spring and fall hemlock looper traps are used at 3 elevations on the west slope of Mt. Mansfield: 1400, 2200 and 3800 feet.
Past Methods (No longer in use)
