Project Overview
Black Rock Forest is a not-for-profit organization with a mission of advancing scientific understanding of the natural world through research, education, and conservation programs. The organization maintains a 3,920-acre forest and a scientific field station in the Hudson Highlands, 60 miles north of New York City. It has been managed as a research forest and biological field station since the 1920s.
Objectives
Much of the research at Black Rock Forest focuses on forest health and wildlife connectivity. Research goals include predictive understanding of the future of eastern deciduous forests in relation to individual and interacting effects of urbanization on climate change, biodiversity loss, altered chemical cycles, and the spread of invasive species.
