The timing of phenological events in the life cycle of a tree, such as leaf emergence, flowering time and leaf senescence, is often influenced by temperature and other abiotic factors. As such, these phenological events are expected to be highly sensitive to climate change. Monitoring the phenology of trees can provide insight into the ways that climate change is impacting trees and the ecosystems of which they are a part.
