- Title: Chloroform in Soil Gas
- Start Date: 1995-06-09
- End Date: 2005-06-11
- Description: A soil probe was used to measure on-site soil gas which was analyzed later using gas chromatography
- Purpose: Investigate hypothesis that chloroacetic acids may be involved in forest decline by attempting to replicate findings from Europe of high levels of trichloroacetic in conifer foliage and chloroform enrichment in soil-air from conifer forests

► Methods
- Past Methods (no longer in use)
- Twig and soil gas samples
- Started: 1995-06-09
Ended: 1995-06-11 - Method Description: Balsam fir twig samples and soil gas samples were collected at 5 different elevations along the Halfway House Trail. Foliage twigs from 20-30 foot height were collected and placed in glass vials. Two samples of ambient air were collected. The soil gas samples were taken using a battery-powered constant-volume type pump attached to a plastic tube and tenax-filled tube type trap with a stainless steel probe with small holes that was poked into soil at about 20 sm depth.
