With funding from the Northern States Research Cooperative, we established 18 plots in Vermont's managed forests. Most are located in federal, state and town forests, parks and management areas. The initial primary focus was on soil carbon, which serves as a major reservoir for carbon storage in forests. Initial soil sampling was done in 2008/2009, along with measurement of aboveground biomass. In 2012/2013 we resampled to determine earthworm numbers and species, and also performed a detailed land-use history of each site. In addition, four sites were resampled to assess the impact of partial harvesting on carbon in the forest floor. We hope that these plots will continue to provide a good baseline for future work.</eml:para></eml:abstract><eml:shortName>Long-term Managed Forest Soil Monitoring for Carbon and Nutrients</eml:shortName><eml:personnel><eml:contentProvider><eml:surName>Juillerat</eml:surName><eml:givenName>Juliette</eml:givenName></eml:contentProvider><eml:principalInvestigator><eml:surName>Wilmot</eml:surName><eml:givenName>Sandra</eml:givenName></eml:principalInvestigator><eml:contentProvider><eml:surName>Burt</eml:surName><eml:givenName>Nancy</eml:givenName></eml:contentProvider><eml:contentProvider><eml:surName>Cogbill</eml:surName><eml:givenName>Charlie</eml:givenName></eml:contentProvider><eml:contentProvider><eml:surName>Villars</eml:surName><eml:givenName>Thomas</eml:givenName></eml:contentProvider><eml:contentProvider><eml:surName>Bailey</eml:surName><eml:givenName>Scott</eml:givenName></eml:contentProvider><eml:principalInvestigator><eml:surName>Ross</eml:surName><eml:givenName>Donald</eml:givenName></eml:principalInvestigator><eml:contentProvider><eml:surName>Brynn</eml:surName><eml:givenName>David</eml:givenName></eml:contentProvider><eml:contentProvider><eml:surName>Alves</eml:surName><eml:givenName>Caroline</eml:givenName></eml:contentProvider><eml:contentProvider><eml:surName>Knowles</eml:surName><eml:givenName>Meghan </eml:givenName></eml:contentProvider><eml:contentProvider><eml:surName>Briggs</eml:surName><eml:givenName>Jeff </eml:givenName></eml:contentProvider><eml:contentProvider><eml:surName>Thorton</eml:surName><eml:givenName>Lisa </eml:givenName></eml:contentProvider><eml:contentProvider><eml:surName>Görres</eml:surName><eml:givenName>Josef</eml:givenName></eml:contentProvider><eml:principalInvestigator><eml:surName>Adair</eml:surName><eml:givenName>Carol</eml:givenName></eml:principalInvestigator></eml:personnel><eml:keywordSet><eml:keyword>timber harvest</eml:keyword><eml:keyword>long term monitoring</eml:keyword><eml:keyword>soil carbon</eml:keyword><eml:keyword>forest management</eml:keyword><eml:keyword>vermont</eml:keyword><eml:keyword>earthworms</eml:keyword></eml:keywordSet></eml:project><eml:dataTable><eml:title>Soil exchangeable cations 2008-2009</eml:title><eml:coverage scope="document"><eml:temporalCoverage scope="document"><eml:rangeOfDates><eml:beginDate><eml:calendarDate>2008-05-01</eml:calendarDate></eml:beginDate></eml:rangeOfDates></eml:temporalCoverage></eml:coverage><eml:description>Exchangeable cation concentrations and pools from the three soil pits at each site.
