At each site, up to 10 branches on up to 10 trees were examined to count the number of forest tent caterpillar egg masses. Once a threshold number of egg masses was reached, defoliation was predicted and no more branches needed to be surveyed. In 1978, additional data were collected on root starch and root sap sugar content to help predict risk to tree health from past and future defoliation.</eml:para></eml:abstract><eml:shortName>Forest Tent Caterpillar Egg Mass Surveys and Tree Health 1977-1980</eml:shortName><eml:personnel><eml:principalInvestigator><eml:surName>Wilmot</eml:surName><eml:givenName>Sandra</eml:givenName></eml:principalInvestigator></eml:personnel><eml:keywordSet><eml:keyword>defoliation</eml:keyword><eml:keyword>forest tent caterpillar</eml:keyword><eml:keyword>outbreak</eml:keyword></eml:keywordSet></eml:project><eml:dataTable><eml:title>Forest Tent Caterpillar Survey Stand Data</eml:title><eml:coverage scope="document"><eml:temporalCoverage scope="document"><eml:rangeOfDates><eml:beginDate><eml:calendarDate>1977-01-01</eml:calendarDate></eml:beginDate><eml:endDate><eml:calendarDate>1980-12-31</eml:calendarDate></eml:endDate></eml:rangeOfDates></eml:temporalCoverage></eml:coverage><eml:description>The characteristics of the stands sampled during the survey.</eml:description><eml:purpose/><eml:shortName>Z1141_2385_I23DUL</eml:shortName><eml:physical><eml:objectName>VMC.1141.2385</eml:objectName><eml:dataFormat><eml:formatName>mySQL</eml:formatName></eml:dataFormat><eml:citation>Matthew Gorton (2017) Forest Tent Caterpillar Survey Stand Data.
